…now it’s time… to say goodbye… to all our company…

Background: I caught up on Lost around the start of season 4. I borrowed and rented the first three seasons and watched them in about a month. And I was hooked. I’ve watched the last three seasons pretty much live. Needless to say, I’m a fan.

So, last night, I sat down, with much anticipation and some sadness to watch the series finale. Now, I could write a recap/review, but I’ll leave that work for Doc Jensen. I’ve got just a couple of thoughts and a couple of concerns.

[SPOILERS BEGIN HERE]

There were several moments that really rocked me: a) Definitely the biggest was the Charlie/Claire reunion. b) I was blown away when Jin and Sun began speaking English. c) And Hurley’s breakdown before lowering Jack in the cave was heavy.

Now my co-worker said that she would be OK if they didn’t explain everything and I kind of agreed. But there were several gaping holes that I am looking for someone to answer:

  1. What the heck is the island?
  2. What was Widmore always after?
  3. What was the big deal with Desmond?

If you’ve got answers, I’m listening.

So, what did you think of the LOST series finale? Did it live up to your expectations? Was it a let down? What are you excited for now?

I have watched every episode of LOST. While the ending was nice with all them being reunited… I also want to know the answers to those questions and I am pretty disappointed that they left us hanging!!! I mean the first six seasons were about the island and all the things going on in and around it… and now this last season was more about the alternate reality…. well what about all the island stuff!? I thought they would tie it up in the end but they didn’t. Widmore just died…. but they never explained why he was there.

I am still deciding whether it was good or not. I want to go on record and say that my wife called the ending during the first season.

Missing in Action…Walt and Michael? And I guess that all dogs dont go to heaven since Vincent was left on the island next to Jack’s body!

I will say this…flipping from heart-warming moments to tension back and forth for the 2 and 1/2 hours was great.

  • Melissa, glad we’re on the same page here. My (aforementioned) co-worker says that the details of the island don’t matter, that it was always just a plot device used to move the story of the characters forward. I get that, but I have to call BS because, as you pointed out, “the first six seasons were about the island and all the things going on in and around it”.
I’m ok with the gaps of what happened to everyone after Jack died, and I’m sure that there are some things that could have gone unanswered and I would have been ok [Jack: So, when I saw my father in the jungle, that was you? FakeLocke: Yep. (wow, big mystery solved there, thanks guys!)]. But, seriously, what the heck is the island? Where did it come from? Why is it that way? Help me out here.

Ok…so for Justin and I disappointment was what we diehard Lost fans felt last night as we fell asleep. I am ok with it being a purgatory place (the island) but what was the point of the flashbacks, the sideways, and the Oceanic 6 going home! The other question a coworker of mine mentioned this morning was who were the other people on the island- other people who died some other way and couldn’t find their way? Or were they just there to help the Oceanic dead find their way? Geez…we are going to watch the other Lost seasons this summer with this finale in mind and hope that some answers will come up! Thanks for giving me this forum to vent!

    • Traci, Don’t waste your time watching the other seasons. I feel certain that it won’t reveal anything. “What happened, happened,” “it was all real,” but none of it really mattered.

I think the alternate endings shown on Jimmy Kimmel afterwards were better..haha..no really, I watched this show for all seasons but this current one as I had a hard time getting time to watch. But my hubby & I knew we had to watch the finale. It was haunting to me with them all being in the church and the bright light? I think I know what they were saying but there are still so many answers I wanted to have..but guess we wont ever get them..
