For those that are in the dark about what is going on and what has been going on, let me try and catch you up with all of the craziness involving Marvel, Edward Norton as “The Hulk”, The Avengers film, and how they all relate to each other.

We have waited and waited to hear who was going to direct the long-awaited and long-gestated Avengers film ever since its existence was announced at Comic Con last year. “There is going to be an Avengers film in 2012″ was the final word as of last year and now that we know who the Hulk is, who Iron Man clearly is, and Captain America has been named, who is going to take on this epic adventure and try their hand at corralling these egos into one film? Some of the names that have been tossed around include Louis Leterrier, Jon Favreau, Matthew Vaughn, and Joe Johnston, but of all the names talked about, here’s one that I can assure you, never crossed anyone’s mind.

There has been a lot of talk lately about how the upcoming Avengers film will be able to incorporate so many characters as well as so many ego’s. With Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and maybe The Hulk, how could anyone possibly begin to bridge all of those styles together?

Kevin Feige, the President of Production over at Marvel Studios, has been handed this impossible task and while sitting down with SFX Magazine, he revealed what characters will ultimately make it into the film.

…its three people, four including Hulk , five including Nick Fury – who you have seen before in other movies, coming together for the very first time.

Hulk? Which Hulk are we going to see? Edward Norton or Eric Bana? Although he doesn’t exactly answer the question with a straight response, we can gather that they are at least going to try and get Norton back.

I think there’s a chance, its certainly our intention to use the same actors from film to film where we can.

SFX Magazine also asked him about how they are going to mesh the mythological-science-driven world of Thor with that of the relatively modern world of Iron Man.

We’re doing the Stan Lee/Jack Kirby/Walt Simonson/J Michael Straczynski Thor. We’re not doing the blow the dust of the old Norse book in your library Thor. And in the Thor of the Marvel universe there’s a race called The Asgardians, and we’re linked through this tree of life that we’re unaware of. Its real science, but we don’t know about it yet. The Thor movie is about teaching people that.

What do you think about all of this Avengers news? Do you think they will be able to pull off the impossible and have all of the cohesively in one film?

It was reported that Mickey Rourke was in negotiations to star as the villain Crimson Dynamo in Iron Man 2, but now it’s being reported, after several news stories about his small salary and him being on and off the film numerous times, that he is IN FACT going to star as the villain Whiplash.

I don’t know anything about Whiplash, but according to his Wiki, he is a gifted electrical technician at Stark International’s Cincinnati branch, but desires a life of luxury and becomes a professional criminal. With a costume and a sophisticated metal whip of his own design, he becomes Whiplash, a weapons designer, special agent, and assassin for the criminal organization the Maggia.

Following the news of Rourke’s involvement, it was announced that Scarlett Johansson will replace Emily Blunt as the Black Widow in not only Iron Man 2, but also in The Avengers movie.

Again, not knowing a lot about comic books, I had to look Black Widow up and the funny thing about the Black Widow is that she is a red head. Why did they hire a bright blond to portray a red head? I don’t understand when Hollywood does this, how hard is it to find a good actress for the role who is ACTUALLY a red head?! I know it’s not very important in the grand scheme of things, but I just wish Hollywood would hire actors/actresses based on the necessity of the character, not who’s hot right now.

Anyway, I can’t say that I am excited about the Johansson news, yeah, she’s pretty and I’m sure she’ll woo all of the male audience members when she is in the black leather, but can she hold her own as a comic book villain? Can she really be a femme fatal?

It’s good to see some news about Iron Man 2 surface and I like that the marketing machine has started on the much anticipated film. What do you think of both Scarlett and Rourke’s involvement? Comic books gurus: Is this good news for the Iron Man franchise?

Movie News (12/19/2008): The Iron Man 2 casting carousel has certainly done its best to ignite controversy and create confusion about its firing and hiring of actors, but this latest casting rumor is actually sounding like a gold mine.

Sources have confirmed to Latino Review that none other than Tim Robbins will be cast as Howard Stark, Tony Stark’s father, in Iron Man 2. From the article, this is what the source had to say:

Tim Robbins is going to be playing Howard Stark in an important flashback sequence that is going to set up the Avengers and Captain America films. Jon [Favreau] wanted to get a good actor because he didn’t think the guy who played Howard in the last film could carry such an important scene.

In other Iron Man related news, it was also spoken to Latino Review that HAWKEYE and BLACK WIDOW are definitely in Iron Man 2 and they wont be cameos either.

What do you guys think?
