I saw this movie yesterday (between my morning and afternoon naps). I’m still a bit conflicted about it and not quite sure what to make of it.

Watching this film, I saw within it scenes from The Matrix, Aeon Flux, I, Robot, and Resident Evil: Extinction. Basically, any post-apocalyptic sci-fi film you can think of. But is it really fair to make these comparisons? In fact, the Terminator series was launched long before any of these other films. This entry just happens to show us a side of the Terminator universe that has been heretofore mostly unseen. (But the T-600 really did remind me of Apocalypse from Resident Evil.)

I guess that this movie just didn’t feel like a Terminator film. The argument there, though, would have to be that none of the previous films really have the same feel as one another. They did, however, share a modern day backdrop that this one was missing.

It was interesting to see the role reversal created between John Connor and Kyle Reese – Reese being the young buck fighting for his life and being rescued by the older, stronger Connor. I think that replacing Claire Danes with Bryce Dallas Howard was brilliant. The creation of a sympathetic cyborg, Marcus Wright, however, may have been a bad move.

Overall, the film was entertaining, if not completely predictable. It struck out in a new direction that could serve it’s following films well, but would be hard pressed to stand on its own. With the Sarah Connor Chronicles‘ failure of to add anything of value to the franchise and the critical maligning of Rise of the Machines. It’s looking more and more as though the producers should have called it quits with T2 – which we all know was groundbreaking. But, with Bale signed on to a 3 picture deal (so I heard), there may be adequate time to turn this ship and bring things full circle. I’ll hold onto hope for it.

This is absolutely amazing! This movie may have just jumped into the #1 spot for my Most Anticipated Movies of 2009.

Discussion: How do you feel about this trailer? Does the Christian Bale rant skew your enthusiasm or excitement over this film? How amazing is this?

Terminator Salvation 1

Terminator Salvation 2

Two new Terminator: Salvation posters have been released. Expect to see more and more advertising for this film as the marketing blitz heats up leading up to the Summer Movie Season.

It’s been a while since ToC has featured anything about this film. Are you more/less excited about it as it gets nearer? Did the much talked about Christian Bale rant turn you off from the film or him as an actor?

Over the holidays, Entertainment Weekly released some never-before-seen photos from some of the most anticipated movies of 2009. From left to right, we have a new shot of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in X-Men Origins:Wolverine, Pixar’s next animated adventure Up, a new shot of Harry and Ginny from Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (one of my most anticipated films of 2009), a shot of The Comedian from the much anticipated Watchmen film, and finally we have 2 new shots of Christian Bale as John Connor in Terminator Salvation and Johnny Depp as John Dilinger in Michael Mann’s upcoming action thriller Public Enemies.

You can check out the full gallery here which include many more films that didn’t quite make the ToC cut. Though, with one exception, Spike Jonze’s upcoming film Where The Wild Things Are, that one is very interesting to me, and one that I can’t wait to see. The photos aren’t amazing nor do they blow me away, but it’s nice to have some images to start out 2009 with…especially from films I am really looking forward to seeing.

What do you think?

Movie News (12/10/2008): I know I may be a little late in bringing this to Truth On Cinema, but nonetheless, we don’t have to go see The Day The Earth Stood Still to see the first full trailer for Terminator:Salvation, it has gone online.

What do you guys think? Mad Max? Transformers?

Movie News (12/4/2008): Hey guys, this is one of the coolest posters/advertising I’ve seen for a movie in a long time! Sony has gone all out for this movie and Terminator Salvation is quickly moving its way up the ladder of my Most Highly Anticipated Movies of 2009.

How amazing is that?!

Movie News (7/30/2008): The first teaser poster for next summer’s Terminator sequel Terminator Salvation has gone online and ToC has the exclusive first look.

This poster looks awesome! The texturing done on the face is so gritty and an awesome lead in to how this film will resemble, a more gritty, raw, realistic look at the rise of the machines and the fight to save mankind. What do you think?

Movie News (7/17/2008): The first teaser trailer for the sci-fi epic Terminator Salvation has gone online! This is a very exciting trailer and I loved hearing the classic Terminator beat in the background. You may think what you think, but this is a franchise, that despite its weak showings since Terminator 2, that people have been waiting for to be restarted. Enjoy.
