Movie Rumors (8/6/2008): From the department of “Sequels We Wanted to See as a Kid but Are Now Too Late” comes this latest rumor tidbit from our friends over at Movieweb. According to an “anonymous source,” Warner Bros. is not only setting up a The Goonies 2 film, but it will be a theatrical release as well. From the article on Moviehole, “…a source at Warner Bros has since confirmed this – saying they are developing it as a major movie, but won’t share anything other than that. Nothing we didn’t already know though.”

What do you think? Does this excite you any? Can it survive in today’s modern movie world? Will it be a CG nightmare, or will they rely on classic special effects like the original? Look for this rumor to be proven wrong pretty soon…this one seems too good to be true.

Movie Rumors (7/16/2008): It is being discussed out in the movie-rumor-mill that Justin Theroux is in final negotiations to write the screenplay for Iron Man 2. Though mostly known for acting, Theroux directed the Billy Crudup-led romantic comedy Dedication last year and penned next month’s comedy Tropic Thunder starring Iron Man lead Robert Downey Jr.

Many people are worried about this move due to Theroux’s lack of experience and the overwhelming anticipation this sequel will surely bring. The first installment, Iron Man, was attributed to 4 different writers and the script was said to be one of the weaker elements of the film, so who knows, maybe having just one guy will work.

Movie Rumors (7/3/2008): Slashfilm cites a British tabloid’s report that a “Friends” movie has been given the greenlight. Sources say that due to the success of “Sex and the City” on the big screen, studio execs and “Friends” creators have really got their wheels spinning about how a film could be just as big, if done right. Cast members Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matthew Perry, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer will reprise their roles for a big-screen adaptation ‘within the next 18 months’, according to insiders.

I don’t know what to think about this. I was a huge Friends fan while it was on TV, I even have all of the seasons on DVD, but I am at first doubtful and skeptical on how good it could be on the big screen. I think that one of the gems of Friends was its quick humor, which relied heavily on it only being a 30-minute sitcom once a week, and I’m afraid that a 2 hour movie would seem to REALLY drag on. What do you guys think? Would you want to see a Friends movie?

Movie News (6/23/08): According to producer Laura Ziskin, Spider-Man 4 has been tentatively scheduled for a May 2011 release date. Neither Tobey Maguire or director Sam Raimi have been committed to work on the next installment, and the screenplay from James Vanderbilt hasn’t been turned in yet, so who knows if this is rumor or news….guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Movie Rumors (5/19/08): George Lucas tells Fox News that it’s more than a strong possibility there will be a fifth “Indiana Jones.” He says that he and director Steven Spielberg have left the door open for a sequel to Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. “I haven’t even told Steven or Harrison this. But I have an idea to make Shia [LaBeouf] the lead character next time and have Harrison [Ford] come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie. I can see it working out.”

Movie Rumors (5/19/08): From a trusted source close to Cinematical, it looks like Zodiac screenwriter James Vanderbilt has turned in a working draft for “Spider-Man 4″ that apparently spans across 2 films. What this means is that a Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man 5 could be shot back-to-back if the studios plan to pursue the script. What do you think?

Movie Rumors (4/21/08): Joel Silver recently talked with IESB about the future of “Wonder Woman” and he revealed that he’s got 2 scribes currently writing a script and that when asked about who would direct, “…Andy Wachowski had an idea on how to open the Wonder Woman film…” but he wouldn’t comment further. I don’t know what this means, but it looks like the makings of some good internet rumors.

Movie Rumors (2/26/08): An article at Variety detailing what’s going on with Universal Pictures has dropped some interesting facts about the supposed “dead” Bourne franchise.
