6a00d8341bf6c153ef01157118b5f5970cEntertainment Weekly has released the first images of Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow in Iron Man 2.

Early on in the development of Iron Man 2, it was highly regarded as a mistake in hiring Johansson to portray the Black Widow over the rumored Emily Blunt with regards to if she would be able to actually act the part or be able to fit the character visually.

Well, I don’t know if she can act the part, but from what I can tell and from what I know about the Black Widow’s looks, I think she pulls off the visualization of the character well. The jury is still out on whether or not she’ll come across as a realistic character, one who will add another layer to the already excellent cast, or if she’ll end up like Halle Berry in Catwoman, just another beautiful woman in leather.

Take a look at the cover to get a more up close and personal look at the stars of Iron Man 2. Is it me, or does Scarlett Johansson in this cover look nothing like Scarlett Johansson?

Friday’s issue is actually a full-on Comic Con preview with lots of updated images from films the likes of Prince of Persia, Iron Man 2, Alice in Wonderland, 2012, 9, Pandorum, etc. Check out the full lineup with pictures here.

Sylvester Stallone’s next big film is beginning to take shape. The Expendables (set to release April 23 of next year) has already begun putting together an unbelievable cast. Currently confirmed to be in on the action (and I’m sure there will be a lot of it) are:

  • Sylvester Stallone
  • Arnold Schwarzenegger
  • Mickey Rourke
  • Dolph Lundgren
  • Jet Li
  • Jason Statham
  • “Stone Cold” Steve Austin
  • Randy Couture

and others

This will be a must see for me. What about you? Does a cast like that get your blood pumping or does your gag reflex activate? Snarky comments about the above photo are also welcomed.

It was reported that Mickey Rourke was in negotiations to star as the villain Crimson Dynamo in Iron Man 2, but now it’s being reported, after several news stories about his small salary and him being on and off the film numerous times, that he is IN FACT going to star as the villain Whiplash.

I don’t know anything about Whiplash, but according to his Wiki, he is a gifted electrical technician at Stark International’s Cincinnati branch, but desires a life of luxury and becomes a professional criminal. With a costume and a sophisticated metal whip of his own design, he becomes Whiplash, a weapons designer, special agent, and assassin for the criminal organization the Maggia.

Following the news of Rourke’s involvement, it was announced that Scarlett Johansson will replace Emily Blunt as the Black Widow in not only Iron Man 2, but also in The Avengers movie.

Again, not knowing a lot about comic books, I had to look Black Widow up and the funny thing about the Black Widow is that she is a red head. Why did they hire a bright blond to portray a red head? I don’t understand when Hollywood does this, how hard is it to find a good actress for the role who is ACTUALLY a red head?! I know it’s not very important in the grand scheme of things, but I just wish Hollywood would hire actors/actresses based on the necessity of the character, not who’s hot right now.

Anyway, I can’t say that I am excited about the Johansson news, yeah, she’s pretty and I’m sure she’ll woo all of the male audience members when she is in the black leather, but can she hold her own as a comic book villain? Can she really be a femme fatal?

It’s good to see some news about Iron Man 2 surface and I like that the marketing machine has started on the much anticipated film. What do you think of both Scarlett and Rourke’s involvement? Comic books gurus: Is this good news for the Iron Man franchise?

IESB.net is reporting that Best Actor nominee Mickey Rourke has been asked to join the cast of Rambo V.

FACT: I love Rambo movies.

FACT: Mickey Rourke is a great actor.

This could just be the internet rumor mill at work, or it could be the wheels beginning to spin on a great new project.

What do you think about a Stallone vs. Rourke film? Should the Rambo franchise call it quits? What would make the next film compelling and interesting?
