What Happened? Seriously, what happened to M. Night? How in the world could he have made this movie? Was his wife not around to warn him, were his producers gagged so they couldn't talk, did he hire a blind production crew? Someone please give me a reason why someone who could make a movie as great as The Sixth Sense make something like this?!?!?!
I had to see it. Despite all of the warnings, I had to see it. What were people really talking about? Was it really that bad? I mean, come on, it's M. Night. He did The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, Signs, for goodness sake, surely it has some redeemable elements right?
Folks, listen to me, listen to all of your friends too, DON'T SEE THIS MOVIE! This is a waste of an hour and a half. There literally isn't anything (well, maybe besides Zooey who I always like) in this film that I can say that I enjoyed. The story, the visuals, the acting, the script, the twist, the essence of the film...all of it was crap. I couldn't believe what I was watching as I sat through this on a Sunday afternoon. Seriously, attacking plants? Really? So, plants that are angry at humans because of our pollution and global warming attack us by creating wind and sending out a chemical that will turn each human against himself? That sounds like the making of a great b-movie...not a summer blockbuster by M. Night Shyamalan!!
I think Mark Wahlberg knew it was bad while filming. Either that, or he isn't that great of an actor to begin with and I've just been lulled into thinking he was because of all of the action that he does. But, nevertheless, he was choppy in his delivery, not believable as a science teacher who all of a sudden thinks he figures it out, but is still repeating to himself and everyone, "I don't know, I don't know" like a sad sheep dog, and just plain flat. His chemistry with Zooey was absent and funny at best and contained no real sense of romance or authenticity.
I really don't want to say anything else about it because it truly wasn't worth a Netflix spot. I am appalled that M. Night made this movie and that he would think his devoted followers would accept something as bad as this. I truly believe that he hoped his name could float the success of this movie. I think he was wishing that people would flock to see this movie just because it was an M. Night Shyamalan movie...well buddy, it worked, but you didn't get $9.50 out of me this summer.
Go back to the drawing board M. Night and make that Unbreakable sequel you've been rumoring about. Stay away from eco-thrillers.
Content Warning: Rated R for violent and disturbing images. People kill themselves throughout the entire movie in stupid and comedic ways. Ridiculous.

This movie really made me dislike M Night a whole bunch. In fact the last couple of movies have made me lose interest in his work.
I agree with you Dan that I found the acting choppy and slow. I didnt remember thinking that Mark and Zoey's relationship/marriage had much chemistry at all.
I will give you credit. At least you rented it. I took the Mrs to Studio Movie Grill. I was immediately put on "Moving Picking Probation" by her once we left the theater!
For me, this was a producer/movie studio move to say..."MNight...you've made us so much money with your movies previously...go make you any movie you'd like and we'll fund it." Unfortunately...this is what we and they got in return.
I wish I would have read your review before we went out last weekend also to rent it. It seemed like a good pick at the time. But I agree..what a stinker!! We even let your sister borrow it to watch it and they agreed. So at least 2 families got to watch the stinker for the price of 1 so at least we got a deal on it. Sorry Scotto you actually went to the movies to see it..I have picked some stinkers that have put me in probation also. I haven't liked the last few M Night movies..but I keep thinking/hoping another Sixth Sense will be coming.
Ok, ok, let me clarify a little something for you all. 6th Sense? Not the great piece of art everyone wants to believe. In fact - save for the truly amazing Unbreakable - all of his work has been lackluster. Don't buy into the media machine. Well, ok, The Village was kinda cool, too.
And maybe I'm a little biased, but the week before I saw 6th Sense, I saw a movie called Stir of Echoes. Guess what, the kid sees dead people (well, really just one). The kid is cooler, Kevin Bacon is way cooler, it's darker and scarier, it's an all around better movie (insert content warning here: Rated R).
I just don't get the fascination with this guy. Sorry (well, not really).
Ryan, I respect your opinion but lets begin and finish this debate over at the Weekly Round Table.
The Zoo scene was my favorite! Reminded me of a SNL skit!
You're right. It's waste of time.
Waited and waited during all movie something would happen. A big disappointment happened.
Is this M.Shyamalan the same M.Shyamalan who made Sixth Sense?
Yes, he is the same guy...sadly..
