Donna asked about the rumors of an upcoming 3 Stooges movie in last week’s round table so I thought I should share what I know about the movie.
Will there be a Three Stooges movie? Yes.
Will it be a biopic about the actors playing the Three Stooges? No.
Who will be playing the Three Stooges? Sean Penn, Jim Carrey, and Benecio Del Toro.
Alright, so enough with the 20 questions, here are the details that I know so far:
While the three actors above are not exactly confirmed to star in the film (Variety reports that they are in negotiations), MGM is starting to poise and position them out there with production beginning this fall with a 2010 release date set. The Farrelly brothers of There’s Something About Mary fame, are set to write and direct the film that will not be a biopic, rather a “comedy built around the antics of the three characters that Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Howard played in the Columbia Pictures shorts.”
Sean Penn will be playing Larry, Jim Carrey will be playing Curly, and Benecio Del Toro will round it off by playing the intense and always mean Moe. Can you believe it? I can’t, and to be honest, am not excited about this. I really can’t see those actors successfully pulling off playing Larry, Moe and Curly. I could be wrong, but this to me seems like a Hollywood cash cow with some big names attached.

I am still not sure about this. This just doesnt seem like a good trio of actors for this type of role. They are all good in their own right, but as a group to hold a movie together…I’m just not sure. I might need to give it more time and see how it all develops, but so far…I am not buying it!
Anyone else not like this trio?

I don’t! I cannot imagine them together playing these roles. But I guess I will hold my judgment for further info on it and play the wait and see game.
