Thanks to the wonderful guys at UGO, we have the first Super Bowl TV Spot for M. Night Shyamalan’s next attempt at cinematic success, The Last Airbender. In case you forgot, it’s #11 on my Most Anticipated Films of 2010 list, and after watching this spot, I am super pumped to see it. I love the look and the feel of the film thus far, and even though the rock music has been done to death lately, (read: Clash of the Titans) the action looks intense!
What do you think? Do you think M. Night can start his comeback to films with this one?

I remain super excited to see this hit theaters. However, I will always be afraid that something gets lost in translation between animation and live action. A lot of cartoons-gone-live tend to end up looking forced and a little fake and i definitely see potential for that here (the contrast between the appearance of the actors and the set, for instance). Hopefully we can avoid overdoing it in attempt to pay homage to the film’s roots in the show as far as appearance goes. Let’s not make this another “Dragonball” level epic fail.

Katie, my 14 year old expert on all things concerning the animated “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” thinks the trailer looks “pretty cool” and is “really looking forward to seeing the movie.” I couldn’t agree more with Dan about the rock music track and with Steven hoping the translation to film is palatable. So far, the special effects look very much like the animation.

Steven, I, too, have the “Dragonball” effect on my mind. It’s just a tough thing to adapt an animated show/story that has a very specific fan base. The challenge is to make it universally cool, and not something that just the “anime” fans are going to love.
Bob, let’s hope that Katie is pleased come this summer.

Although I’ve heard of Avatar for years I’ll admit I’ve only seen one episode (dang cable monopolies), but while it has cool visuals, where is the humor? I hope they make a trailer to showcase that soon.
M. Night has had a horrible time in Hollywood lately, so with the biggest budget of any movie he has made, hopefully he can turn it around.
