Movie News (7/14/2008): The Movie Blog is reporting from a story derived from Comingsoon.net that Paramount Pictures is going ahead with the sequel to “School of Rock.” The new movie will be titled “School of Rock 2: America Rocks” and it will involve Jack Black leading a group of summer school students on a cross-country field trip that delves into the history of rock ‘n’ roll and explores the roots of blues, rap, country and other genres.

I really thought this was a good movie, I liked seeing Jack Black in a more family friendly role involving music. I am not sure what to think as I thought School of Rock was a good 1-off movie, meaning a movie that thrived on its own and didn’t need a sequel to garnish excitement. Did anyone else enjoy this movie? Are you excited about a sequel? Is this just another move from Hollywood trying to revive old success for lack of any original content?

I think that I enjoyed the music of the movie more than the movie itself! But I did enjoy the movie!

I think that a sequel is stretching it. I dont think that they are related, but someone tried a series with Gene Simmons teaching kids and I believe they called it “Gene Simmons: School of Rock.” Dont believe it did very well.

Unless done better than the first movie, I doubt it would be a successful sequel. I hope that they take their time and really develop the script before rushing to shoot it.

If there will be one aspect of the movie that I would look forward to, it will be the music they look at, play, explore…yada yada.

  • I actually liked the first one. I even convinced my wife to watch it a few weeks back when it came on TV.
I have to agree, however, that it is not a movie deserving of a sequel.
I think that there was a documentary called “Rock School.” That was the reality of what the “School of Rock” movie was based on.

My wife and I did also enjoy the first movie, but like I said, it was a good movie for what it was, I don’t think it’s going to be helped by a sequel.

Dan, has there been any new developments on this movie? I loved the first one so I would definitely see the second one out of loyalty. =) But it probably won’t be as good.

Traci, currently it’s still in development which means that nothing is really moving on it. Jack Black won’t return unless the script is better than the first and the original director, Richard Linklater, comes back as well.

So, as of right now, it’s still just stuck in “development.”
