n507383174_1297417_9602I have long argued that Spider-Man 3 will be the ruin of the Spider-Man franchise because of its over-littering of villains. I am not alone with this opinion as many people have sounded off since the movie came out about how much potential the movie had, but that which was ruined by the cramming of 3 well-known villains into a 2 and a half hour time period.

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, the director of all of the Spider-Man films himself, Sam Raimi has admitted, evidently after the fuss I have been making about it, that the amount of villains did in fact ruin the 3rd film in the franchise. From the man himself:

“I think having so many villains detracted from the experience. I would agree with the criticism,” he said in the print edition of DVD & Blu Ray Review, as reported in The Coventry Telegraph.

It’s very encouraging to hear the director of the Spider-Man films admitting to the faults in his movie. Spider-Man 4 is automatically looking better due to his admission.

What do you think? Who do you think should be the villains in Spider-Man 4?

CARNAGE FOR SURE!!! Although then they have to have another way to get the symbiote back to earth or venom’s to not be dead and make it to the prison.
Shocker would probably also be pretty awesome, but i mean Carnage is insane. Itd probably make spiderman a little darker of a movie.

What’s the deal with Carnage? What’s his story? How does he relate to Peter Parker and his story? Help out the comic book impaired like me Patrick.

Only because you requested it dan, (as the spiderman series is my second favorite comic book series, first being ironman)
Carnage, Like Venom, is a symbiote bonding to a human, turning them basically into a psychotic killing machine.
Carnage, however, was set out to be a darker bond.
Traditionally, (or from the series i started out on) Brock’s symbiote grew tired of his incompetence to kill spiderman, and when Eddie Brock went to prison, Brock encountered Cletus Cassady, a deranged serial killer. Brock’s symbiote saw him as a stronger host and went to Cletus. The bond of Kletus and the symbiote is called Carnage. Just think the crazy evil that the symbiote turns everyone into, combining with a sadistic serial killer and there you go. He does, however, think of himself as a hero, stating that humans are all evil and we have perverted the world and that it is his job to bring them to justice. He is very violent in his killings and thus it is spidey’s job to stop him, and as the villains in spiderman always do, it forces spiderman into internal conflict. He is unsure about the law and order he is providing and if he really is helping people.

That is Carnage in a nutshell.

Problems with Carnage in the series and why i think he WONT end up the next villain:
They Killed Eddie Brock so tough time getting him to prison with the symbiote.
They also Seemingly killed the Symbiote so they either have to point out a way it isn’t dead or bring another one from space which would be a lame repeat.
He is freaking nuts, and very gruesome. If they put Carnage onto screen the way he should be placed, uncut, it would bump spiderman to an R rating, thus loosing its children audience.
This is the comparison i would make, What the Joker did to Batman in Dark Knight, would be what Carnage does to Spiderman if they made it right.

So while i dream they do carnage, Shocker is the most likely candidate.
He is a more popular villain who isn’t too extreme, probably a safe bet for them after Spiderman 3 was barraged with villains.
Shocker was a tech geek as a kid and ended up using his talents to become the best burglar and safe cracker around. He makes this gloves that oscillate the air waves causing explosions and holes to rapidly form.

But despite all this, the most likely person is Lizard, because they have already introduced is character, Dr. Connors, Peter’s science professor. He has been around since S2 so he is probably due to become the next villain. A lot of different ways he becomes a lizard man in the series’ but mainly he experiments with lizards limb regeneration which in one freak accident or another, turns him into a lizard.

Rhino is also a good candidate for a pick, (think Juggernaut but with a Rhino outfit on) or possibly Scorpion who, just like he sounds, dresses like a scorpion(stinger and all) and battles spidey. (at the start of spiderman they werent that original in names… Lizard, Rhino, Scorpion… you get the idea from the name)

  • Patrick

sorry i forgot to change it, i said shocker is most likely then remember lizard (Dr Connors) and how he had already been in S2 and S3. so i made no sense when i said Shocker is most likely then Connors… its probably connors
So probably this is how i rate the probablility of villains for S4
    70% – Lizard
    10% – Shocker
    8% – Scorpion
    7% – Rhino
    5% – Carnage

Patrick, I really love all of that insight, so much so, that I think I will make an entire post out of it. I think with the background you just gave us it will make for an interesting conversation.

What Villain Should Be In Spider-Man 4?

  • Patrick

Haha glad my old comic book obesssions can help.
But yeah, Lizard has the best shot since Connors has been introduced, but Carnage could be very cool, especially if they do some like they had the final Venom Vs. Spidey scene in S3. Where Venom had his webs all over the place and Spidey was confused and afraid. Shocker is a simple villain and kind of flat, so who knows.

  • I was less concerned about the number of villains than by the fact that they were clearly a vehicle for hocking toys – i.e. “New Goblin” on the flying snowboard.
