This news won’t interest everyone that reads or follows Truth On Cinema, but for those that like to find deeper meaning and/or spiritual themes in films, the popular “large multi-faith e-community” Beliefnet kicked off their 5th Annual Beliefnet Film Awards this past Wednesday with some nominees that include some familiar Oscar faces.

The Beliefnet Film Awards exist to, “recognize the most entertaining and inspirational films and filmmakers in entertainment today—allowing Beliefnet viewers to acknowledge what they think are the inspiring spiritual films of the past year. The nominees are chosen in two categories, the People’s Award―given to the film receiving the most votes from visitors to the site, and the Judge’s Award, based on quality and spiritual impact of the films, performances, and documentaries of the year, as determined by Beliefnet editors and a panel of judges.”

Be sure to check out the links to vote for yourself on which film will be the:

Best Spiritual Film (A Serious Man, Avatar, The Blindside, The Road, The Stoning of Soraya M.)

Best Inspirational Film (Up, Precious, American Violet, Away We Go, Invictus)

Best Spiritual Documentary (Oh My God, Enlighten Up, More Than A Game, Earth, Unmistaken Child).

Voting began Wednesday, February 3 and ends Friday, February 26. Winners will be announced on Monday, March 1st for both the People’s Award and the Judge’s Award.
