Movie News (11/11/2008): Paramount Pictures has just released 2 brand new character posters for Star Trek that feature the new Kirk and Spock.
Discussion: I love both of these posters and especially the Spock one. I really like how Zach looks as Spock and how far they have gone to remain authentic. The official website has started the countdown to the trailer debut which will hit theaters with Quantum of Solace this Friday. The teaser trailer will also debut online at 1pm US-EST on Monday, November 17th.
What do you think about these posters? the movie? JJ Abrams trying to re-start a storied sci-fi franchise? Will it be successful?

Dan, I have nervous apprehension going on. I want to get excited, but with the lack of trailers (which will soon be taken care of) there’s not a whole lot that a poster can do to get me excited/not-excited.
On a scale of 1-10 (10 being ‘beyond pumped’) I am right at a 5. Once I see the trailers…I will then up or down my excitement.

…let me finish my thoughts…(got a little jumpy with the submit key)
Once I see the trailers…I will then up or down my excitement. I imagine that a lot of Trekkies will flock to 007 this weekend.
On that…let me say that I think that Trekkies everywhere will unite to give this an honest look-see, which will have this being a successful movie by money standars, but maybe not at re-igniting the series. Time will tell, but it may not be a blockbuster. I think that STs of the late 90s and early 00s made the series lose a little luster. I just didnt think those movies were good.
A lot of people are skeptical of JJ Abrams…but I thought he did a good job with MI3 and Alias was a great series early on. So he has the potential to make a great movie!

I never got into Star Trek too much. Maybe I was just too young. I have a hard time with them milking it for so many different iterations and books ad nauseum. (Star Wars does this as well, but I feel like there is a core story there that has been told and is being embellished.)
So, does Star Trek have this? Have I just missed it? Maybe I should go back and revisit the whole thing. Is there a grand tale and folklore caught up in it? Or is it what I think it is: just a bunch of weird looking characters (Whoopi Goldberg included) flying around having firm dialogue with one another?
I’m truly willing to care about it, but right now I have no good reason to.

Ryan…go with the milking it to death thought…that’s about what it came to in the latter 90s and 00s. three series, several movies, it was all to keep it alive. ST-Next generation was good for it’s time. It was the longest lasting series of the bunch I think. With all of the series, there were only so many stories to tell, cultures to create, etc.
It was be interesting to see what they are trying to do with this new group of actors/storyline/ship. I hope that they dont re-hash the old stuff, but come up with something new.
Like I said, I wouldn’t be surprised if this didnt become a blockbuster. Younger generations dont identify with the series as much!
God bless you for your youth/innocence!
