  I must admit. That looks sick!!! I want to go see it now. Does anybody know what’s it’s based on? a book? a video game? It looks sweet though.

    Troy, District 9 is based on a short film called Alive in Joburg that was also directed by Neill Blomkamp. That film is a documentary-style shot film about aliens landing in South Africa (“Joburg” is short for Johannesburg) and instead of coming full force to take over the world like War of the Worlds, they allow themselves to be subjugated and rendered as second-class citizens.

    In the movie these aliens are called “Non-Humans” and are overseen by Multi-National United (MNU), a company which is utilizing alien technology. When Dirk Michaels (Richard Ighedosa), a soldier working for MNU, mutates into a half human and half “Non-Human” after opening a strange tube he finds in District 9 (where all of the aliens are confined to, it’s like slums in India almost), he becomes a wanted man on both sides.

    What I hear is that this movie could be Neill Blomkamp’s audition to Microsft and other big studios to show them that he can handle a big budget film, the scale of what a potential Halo movie would be.
