It seems to me that more and more "remakes" or "remodernizations" of old classics are more about the movie studios not having a solid story to start from, more than it is a complete remake of an old classic. It's almost like they just need an old classic's story to start from and then by the time the film is done, they've made a completely different film and it wouldn't even be considered a remake anymore.
