Movie News (9/30/2008): So, while I reported back in August that Tobey and Sam were coming back for Spider-Man 4, it wasn’t clear yet whether or not Kirsten Dunst was back….well, the news is in, she will be coming back for a fourth Spider Man.
Discussion: I am not a fan of her and never have been, so this news doesn’t excite me really, but I guess for continuity, it makes sense. How do you see her fitting into the new movie? Personally, I’d like to see her get killed off early and turn Peter Parker loose on a revenge-thirsty mission…what do you think?

I dig it simply because I don’t like changing actors in an established series.

Nice “batman” angle Dan! But no.
Ryan and I are on the same page here! Switching actors/actresses is risking but can work.
After all, many liked Maggie G better than Katie Holmes as Rachel in Dark Night, but I like keeping the same characters!
But as this discussion is about Spiderman, I like Kirsten as MJ. I cannot imagine anyone else filling the role as well as she does. I say keep the winning team together!!!
And just to prove it can work…other than Dark Night, another classic switcher-rew…Elizabeth Shue checking in and playing Marty McFly’s girlfriend in the second and third Back to the Future movies. I didnt mind that, mostly because she was a crush at the time.
But I have to say the 87 batmans in the 90s Batman movies was frustrating.

Gotta argue the Elizabeth Shue point. I liked the other chick. And I preferred Katie Holmes.

I preferred Katie too. As far as ES…let’s agree to disagree!

Katie Holmes?!?! Are you guys kidding me?!! That was one of the worst casting decisions in cinematic history….now, that may be an overstatement, but still, the passion behind it is true!

Dont hate the greatness of TomKat! Wait…never mind. Maggie was good…but still wonder what Katie could have done with it.

I really didn’t think it affected the movie at all with a change of that character. I hardly remember Katie in the previous one so it wasn’t a big stretch for me to change my thinking for Maggie. I am no fan of Kirsten but she has been in all of the previous Batmans so I think I would miss her not being in the next one.

ok I gotta comment too! I like Kirsten as MJ and I would hate it if they killed her off (wouldn’t follow comic canon) I would like to see Spiderman interact with some other superheroes like FF or Ironman, maybe even the Punisher?
