Back in March of last year, it was being rumored that there would be a reboot of the Tom Clancy franchise that would begin with a much younger Jack Ryan. More than a year later and all of a sudden Variety is reporting that current Hollywood “it” guy Chris Pine is in serious negotiations to join the alumni of Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and most recently Ben Affleck as the CIA Analyst “Jack Ryan.”
Producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) and Mace Neufeld are said to be currently working with writer Hossein Amini (The Four Feathers) on the next project, working from an original concept not taken directly from a Clancy book.
I was very impressed with Pine’s performance as Captain James T. Kirk in this summer’s Star Trek and I really think he will play a great Jack Ryan. He has that perfect combination of charisma, arrogance, and charm, with some seriousness thrown in. I am really looking forward to seeing how this will play out.
Do you agree with this choice? Will he make a respectable Jack Ryan?
