Movie News (8/11/08): Thanks to TrekMovie.com for these 4 new character posters for the upcoming J.J. Abrams’ directed Star Trek movie that will hit theaters next summer.
The images are (from left to right) of John Cho (Sulu), Simon Pegg (Scotty), Anton Yelchin (Chekov), and Karl Urban (McCoy).

What do you guys think? Is anyone excited about this fresh look at Star Trek? Do these posters excite you at all?

OK, Don’t get me started on the trainwreck that is J.J. Abrams. (The jury is still out on Lost). I’m willing to place money on the fact that Mission Impossible 3 was originally a script for Alias: The Movie and he just changed the character names when Alias was canceled. What is this going to be? Alias in Space?
Sorry. Rant over.
From a design standpoint, cool posters. The only person there that I know is John Cho. I’m sure it will make a little bit of coin, but I’m not really sure why.
Sorry, I’m a cynic.

I have never seen Lost nor have I seen Alias so I don’t have much to stand on when talking about those 2 franchises, but I do remember MI3 and thought it was a hack of a movie.
Maybe it’s because I don’t like Tom Cruise, but nevertheless, I don’t know where I stand on JJ. There are a lot of die hard fans of his, and then there are a lot of people who think like you Ryan. What does anyone else think? Is JJ Abrams legit? Is he a hack?

Oh, and the 2nd poster is Simon Pegg of “Shawn of the Dead” “Hot Fuzz” and “Run, Fat Boy, Run.”
Karl Urban was in “Lord of the Rings”, he played Eomer, and he was also the assassin in “The Bourne Supremacy.”
Anton Yelchin was in “Charlie Bartlett” with Robert Downey Jr., and he will be playing Kyle Reese in “Terminator Salvation.”

The Trek geek in me…loving the fresh look to the movies. I dont know how much I will enjoy this team of actors, but I think it will be cool.
And Dan…I would put Alias on your “To Rent.” It was an awesome show in my opinion in the first couple of seasons. It got a little weird in the later ones, but I love the first two seasons!
As for Lost…get on the band wagon. Watch season one. If you see it, then you may get hooked enough to continue renting Lost. It too has gotten a little weird as seasons have progressed, but it is still a quality show!
But that’s my opinion.

Thanks for the cast run down. Now they all look more familiar.
I’ll echo Scotto on Alias up til season 3 when it just became a soap opera. I’ve always thought of Alias as “24 for Girls”.
I’ve enjoyed Lost, but still think that it may turn out badly.
