Movie News (8/4/08): It appears that the rumors last week of Johnny Depp being considered for the role of the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton’s upcoming adaptation of Alice in Wonderland are indeed true, according to a local newspaper in England where the film is shooting.
Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter? Is anyone else surprised that he would team up with Tim Burton? And in case you are wondering who is going to play Alice, below is a picture of the Australian actress chosen to portray her, her name is Mia Wasikowska.
I am not surprised at all. I dont know if this will translate into a good movie.
I think Burton is in his own world when it comes to making movies. At least he’ll give you sometime fresh! It will be a different perspective on a classic tale!
And Johnny Depp will probably come across as a weird individual. At least thats what I thought of him in Charley and the Chocolate Factory.
I can really see this movie taking on a much needed darker side. Burton tends to throw in a little “dark” in every one of his movies…

Makes me think about the video game ‘Alice’ that came out a few years ago. It was very Burtonesque. And Depp as Mad Hatter? What a great part for him. Kind of a mix between Jack Sparrow, Edward Scissorhands, and Sweeny Todd.
I don’t think my brain can imagine what a character would look like coming from a combo of all of those characters…scary.
