Movie News (7/2/2008): Will Ferrell and “Borat” star Sascha Baron Cohen are teaming up for an untitled Sherlock Holmes comedy produced by Judd Apatow and written by Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder). Ferrell will play Watson and Cohen will play Holmes. Do you guys think this will be funny? I am not a big Will Ferrell fan (except for The Anchorman and Stranger Than Fiction), but the idea of him and Sascha Baron Cohen teaming up for a Sherlock Holmes movie seems like a funny idea. What do you think?

hmm. My step-dad is a huge Holmes fan. I think that I will be hearing about how horrible this is at Christmas dinner.
I think that it could probably be funny and there was, I believe, a huge level of sarcasm in Doyle’s original novels. But I fear that this story might drag that reputation through the mud just knowing the two actors.
Random fact: never in any of the Holmes stories is the line, “Elementary, my dear Watson” ever stated, even though if you asked someone to quote Holmes, that’s probably what they would say.
Ryan, I don’t know if you saw this but I reported on the re-imagination of Sherlock Holmes (a serious version) a while back, in case you’d like to have some more stuff to talk about at Christmas dinner.

Here’s a funny thought: Thinking of previous movies these guys have made, how long into the movie before the both take a naked run together??
I have a feeling this will be a funny movie, but one that I will wait to see at a friends house!
i’m sure it’ll be great. both those guys don’t always make the best movies (talladega nights, stranger than fiction, etc.) but with judd apatow producing it should be pretty great.
