Movie News (6/25/08): The 4th installment of the Fast and Furious franchise is well into production and USA Today gives us the first look into the return of Vin Diesel and Paul Walker together on screen. Diesel had a small cameo in the sequel Tokyo Drift and says that after he did that, he could see how much the audience related with the characters’ as much as the cars, so though being leery about sequels, he signed on to return as Dominic Toretto. Hey Vin, it’s fast cars and scantily clad women, I don’t think there’s much character and depth you have to worry about with the American audience these days…

A Treatise of The The Fast and The Furious Franchise by Ryan

Ok, seriously, I loved the first one. I was literally grabbing on to my seat in the theatre both times. I liked the second one, though I could have liked it just as well (maybe better) without the FF tag and Paul Walker. It was an entertaining summer movie. When I finally saw Tokyo Drift, again, I enjoyed it (save for the Furiously bad acting of Joe Whiteboy - the main character). The Vin Diesel cameo was genius, but I don’t see his character “drifting.”
Will I rush to the theatre for this one? Nope. Will I watch it if I’m bored at 10am on a Saturday morning and its on TBS? No doubt.
Here’s a topic for future discussion: “The demise of movie franchises due to changing directors with each film or why I hate Joel Schumaker.”

Isnt this the 4th installment? Or did I miss one?

I am not sold on Vin Diesel at a movie actor, but I did like him in this movie. I probably wont see it in the movie theater (didnt see any of them in the theater), but when USA plays it for the 1528th time, I’ll check it out!
