Sorry for the lack of Friday Flicks but these past few weekends have been very travel intense for yours truly and my wife. So, without further ado, here is what is playing this weekend that might be of interest.
Sex and the City (Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon)
This movie has longed been rumored to be in production and ever since the TV show ended, talks of turning it into a movie have been running wild…well, the wait is over! I will not nor do I want to see this movie as I never saw nor did I like the TV show. Any movie or TV show with the title “Sex and the City” doesn’t leave a whole lot to the imagination. If you ever watched or liked the TV show, I’m sure you will be lining up to see this one…but I will be at the other theater watching Indiana Jones!
The Strangers (Liv Tyler, Scott Speedman)
There aren’t many scary movies that surprise me in its premise or story, as most of them over-gore you to death and involve very predictable sequences of teenagers making stupid decisions, but this movie is different. I have watched the teaser trailer and I am genuinely terrified of this movie. First of all, any movie that revolves around a simple looking house in the middle of the night while you are home alone, frightens me to my core!! The buzz around this movie is looking like it’s going to be one of the scariest of this year, people talking about how it’s more creepy and suspenseful, rather than violent and horrific. I won’t see this, no, you can’t make me nor could you pay me enough. But, it will make money and most likely scare the crap out of a lot of people.
Alright, that’s what you got for the mainstream releases….take your pick.

If I could go to the movies this weekend, I’d like for you to give me the Strangers. I think that SitC will do well, but I think, even with it’s cult following, its past it’s prime, as are the ladies! It’s the hollywood exec trying to make and extra 250 million…hey kudos to keeping this one in the back pocket for a while!!
From the trailer, I think that the Strangers is going to frustrate me more than scare me…but I am intrigued by it. As I was watching the trailer the question comes, “why are you doing this?” and the answer being, “because you were home!” How frustrating would that be if you were home feeling safe and secure and someone did that to you! I hope that is lives up to the suspense it shows in the trailer, but only time will tell.
All in all…BRING ON THE HAPPENING!
boo on everything that weekend.
