The Hollywood Reporter’s annual Awards Roundtable series has begun and as a part of their Director’s Roundtable, they have selected 6 of the biggest directors to sit down with and talk about film. Stop me if you recognize any of their names or films: Quentin Tarantino (Inglorious Basterds), Jason Reitman (Up in the Air), Lee Daniels (Precious), Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker), Peter Jackson (The Lovely Bones, LOTR), and James Cameron (Avatar, Titanic).
I just have to say that it’s a thrill to watch these iconic directors talk about film with such passion and intelligence. Man would I have loved to have been a fly on the wall. There is just something so pure and epic about listening to directors talk about what they love and how they do it and what they would be doing if they weren’t directors, and so on and so on.
Check out the series of videos starting with the first one that asks each of the directors…
If you’d like to read the entire transcript, because these videos will definitely leave you wanting more, you can go to THR’s website to read it all.

Wow! Who had this idea? I wonder how the directors felt to be in that room too? Intimidation? Jealousy? Overconfidence? To be a fly on the wall in that room!

I think they all were trying to jockey for the best position and out “direct” each other’s responses. They all seemed genuine but Quentin Tarantino seemed to be the most un-filtered and just speaking from his heart, even if what he’s saying isn’t “politically correct.”
