Truth On Cinema tends to report on a lot of big-budget blockbuster films and although I can’t shy away from who I am as a movie lover, there are times when I come across films that I MUST tell you about so that you will be impacted as I was.

Fox Searchlight Pictures, probably one of the best indie studios out there (they brought you films such as Slumdog Millionaire, The Wrestler, Juno), brings you Adam, a lovely film about falling in love in New York. Hugh Dancy (who looks like a young Hugh Jackman) stars as Adam, a lonely, brilliant guy who has Aspergers syndrome and develops an awkward relationship with his beautiful and brainy neighbor Beth, played by Rose Byrne.

I have the trailer here for you to watch and fall in love with courtesy of First Showing.

This film will definitely be part of my 2009 Summer Movie Preview as it comes out on July 29th. It will be showing at limited theaters this summer, so please find your nearest “indie theater” and buy tickets!

This looks interesting and I liked the trailer. Since my daughter, Katie, has Aspergers syndrome I’ll be looking for how the character is portrayed. Characters with Aspergers are being written more into tv and film, i.e. a character on Boston Legal, or Napoleon Dynamite (probably). Sometimes characters with OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) can seem like Aspergers. This may be highlighted by the fact that OCD can usually be found in people with Aspergers, but not the other way around. The one constant about folks with Aspergers (and way more men than women have AS) is that social skills are lacking. Ofter, social skills make no sense to them and they must learn appropriate behaviors and responses. Their world is black and white. I saw some of this in the trailer so I’m holding out hope for a cute, understanding movie.
