Movie News (12/19/2008): The Iron Man 2 casting carousel has certainly done its best to ignite controversy and create confusion about its firing and hiring of actors, but this latest casting rumor is actually sounding like a gold mine.
Sources have confirmed to Latino Review that none other than Tim Robbins will be cast as Howard Stark, Tony Stark’s father, in Iron Man 2. From the article, this is what the source had to say:
Tim Robbins is going to be playing Howard Stark in an important flashback sequence that is going to set up the Avengers and Captain America films. Jon [Favreau] wanted to get a good actor because he didn’t think the guy who played Howard in the last film could carry such an important scene.
In other Iron Man related news, it was also spoken to Latino Review that HAWKEYE and BLACK WIDOW are definitely in Iron Man 2 and they wont be cameos either.
Movie News (12/16/2008): Fans of Twilight don’t have to wait any longer to find out who will helm the next sequel in the “Twilight” series, after the surprise firing of Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, it has been announced that Chris Weitz will take over and direct New Moon.
Discussion: Chris Weitz directing resume includes movies like About A Boy, The Golden Compass, and an uncredited merit on the first American Pie. That resume doesn’t bode well for the confidence I have in him as the new director of a mega-successful series like Twilight. The rabid fan base of Twilight are up in arms over this decision as they argue that a male director won’t be able to capture the intense love story like a female director would.
To that I say, remember a little romantic film called The Notebook? Yeah, that was directed by Nick Cassavetes, a man. In any case, I don’t think it’s a good sign for the future of the Twilight saga that they have one movie made and have already had two directors.
With the new year comes many new things: goals, dreams, resolutions to lose weight, romances made anew, etc. I want to add one more thing to that list: A Truth On Cinema Renovation.
That’s right, in 2009, Truth On Cinema is going to be getting a complete Renovation. Now, I’m not talking about a complete website overhaul, I’m just talking about changing some of the navigation elements, re-arranging how the posts are delivered, etc. I want Truth On Cinema to be as easily accessible to you, the long-time reader and supporter, and to the brand new visitor who just happened upon our little community.
Now, what I need to hear from you is suggestions for improvement. What don’t you like about Truth On Cinema? What would you change if this were your site? If you are a rabid RSS-fan and only visit ToC through the RSS feed, what would you change about the RSS feed?
Please give me any insights, tips, suggestions, compliments, insults that you have. Thanks for making Truth On Cinema everything it is and I hope that you stick around for 2009 and help grow our little movie community.

Movie News (12/10/2008): I know I may be a little late in bringing this to Truth On Cinema, but nonetheless, we don’t have to go see The Day The Earth Stood Still to see the first full trailer for Terminator:Salvation, it has gone online.
There’s been so much movie news that’s come out over the weekend that I needed an entire post devoted to it so you could stay informed.
Adventures in Babysitting Sequel
-Miley Cyrus is set to play the lead role in the project, entitled “Further Adventures in Babysitting,” and the good news is that the project is seen more as a sequel than a remake. I really thought the original 80′s movie was great for its time, and am glad to see that they aren’t trying to remake it, which was the original idea.
Will Smith’s Upcoming Sequels
-Smith confirmed to Collider about the I Am Legend prequel saying “We have a fantastic prequel idea…we’re still trying to work through a couple of bumps in the story. It’s essentially the fall of the last city – the last stand of Manhattan. The movie would be…within the body of the movie D.C. and then Manhattan would fall as the last city.”
-He also confirmed to JoBlo that the Hancock sequel is definitely happening but didn’t speak on any details or dates as of yet.
Aliens 5 Rumor
-Sigourney Weaver talked with MTV and revealed that Aliens 5 with the original director and creator Ridley Scott isn’t out of the question. In speaking about a possible story, she said, “We’d have to go back to the drawing board on the alien. Ridley said that right away when we first talked about a fifth film. What we’re interested in is taking the character of Ripley and seeing what other science fiction story we can tell about someone who has lived several lives.”
Spielberg Updates
-With the passing of Michael Crichton, Steven Spielberg’s long-time producing partner Kathleen Kennedy says that she thinks his death was a sign not to mess with the Jurassic Park story anymore. So, there will be no Jurassic Park 4.
-Spielberg’s Lincoln will begin shooting in the spring and Liam Neeson is still attached to play the lead.
Twilight Director Off Sequel
-Even with the surprisingly strong box office numbers of Twilight it wasn’t enough to keep director Catherine Hardwicke attached to the next sequel New Moon. Summit Entertainment is calling it a move of timing – they are aggressively wanting to get the next movie out by late 2009/early 2010 – and that doesn’t work with Hardwicke’s style of directing and how much prep time she needs to deliver her vision. This is huge news for the Twilight world and I am looking forward to seeing who they get to replace her.
Fourth Bourne Story Details
-Thanks to Universal’s recent first look deal for late author Robert Ludlum’s oeuvre, the next Bourne movie may be going back to the books for its storyline. Producer Frank Marshall said, “We now have access to all the Ludlum story ideas. We’re going to make the fourth movie from them…” According to Marshall it will be the non-Bourne thriller “The Parsifal Mosiac” that will likely serve as the main thrust of a fourth film’s story.
Movie News (12/4/2008): Hey guys, this is one of the coolest posters/advertising I’ve seen for a movie in a long time! Sony has gone all out for this movie and Terminator Salvation is quickly moving its way up the ladder of my Most Highly Anticipated Movies of 2009.
Instead of publishing individual news items when there are Movie Photos to debut, I thought it would be neat to collect all of the latest photos that are currently released and compile them into a Volume. So, without any interruption, I give you “Photos Galore Vol. 1″
These first two are the first official publicity stills of Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in Michael Mann’s crime drama “Public Enemies,” which is about the take down of John Dillinger. I don’t have to tell you who the other guy is, it’s of course Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, but the other photo is a first look at Taylor Kitsch as Gambit in the upcoming “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”. There’s been a lot of reaction to this photo and I can’t say that the picture impresses me all that much, but I’m going to wait until more of the movie stills come out before I judge Gambit’s look.
