If you’re wanting to see a movie this weekend, maybe check out what’s opening in the box offices, try your hand at seeing a movie the DAY it comes out…with the choices this week, Blockbuster would be a better option.
A modern-day fairytale ripped straight from the animated world and left for dead in the mean streets of New York is where we find Enchanted taking us, a journey that left me thinking Disney could have done so much more…
Movie News (4/16/08): In anticipation for this summer’s lineup of blockbusters comes news from the camps of Indiana Jones and The Dark Knight in terms of runtime. It’s being reported that Indiana Jones will clock in at 140 minutes long (13 minutes longer than The Last Crusade) and that The Dark Knight will, after some initial cuts, finish at nearly 3 hours at 165 minutes. So, we’re talking about almost 6 hours of film for 2 of the most anticipated movies we’ve seen in a long time….does that excite you as much as it does me?
Movie News (4/16/08): Here is the final poster for the Incredible Hulk movie, opening world wide on June 13, 2008. It looks very swank and classy, and I am really looking forward to seeing this re-invention of the franchise.
On our lineup this week in Friday Flicks, we have another teeny-horror movie, a gritty cop drama starring Keanu Reeves, and a smart, indie, quirky film that caught the Sundance Festival audience by surprise.
I plan to unveil some Movie Lists over the next upcoming weeks. When I say Lists, I mean Top 5 posts, The Best Rainy Day Movies, etc., that sort of thing. Leave me a comment with a list you’d like to see. I’ve got some ideas about which ones to lead off with, but I need more ideas. I hope you’ve enjoyed ToC so far and keep coming back because the features I am planning on rolling out are only going to get bigger and better!
Over the weekend I was able to watch “Road to Perdition” with Tom Hanks for the first time and I was wonderfully taken away by the film. This film painted a beautiful yet haunting picture of the Father and Son dynamic. I hadn’t ever seen it because people talked about it being hard to see Tom Hanks as a “bad guy” and how that affected their view of the movie. After his performance, he definitely moved up to my Top 5 Favorite Actors List…
Movie News (4/7/08): There are some new details on the upcoming “Transformers” sequel - most importantly which new heroes and baddies will we get to see this time around. It’s being reported that the Decepticons will be getting some new help in the form of Constructicons. In the cartoons, they were Scrapper, Bonecrusher, Scavenger, Mixmaster, Hook and Long Haul. The report also says that we’re going to see “Devastator” on the big screen this time. The film begins shooting in July with pre-production well underway.
Movie News (4/4/08): Variety is reporting that Dimension Films has acquired the rights to remake the 1986 sleeper hit, “Short Circuit.” The original screenplay writers will also return to pen the remake. Personally, I am at first excited about this news as I love Short Circuit, but after some thought, I find it hard to believe that a remake wouldn’t be totally overblown by CGI and turn into a more humorous “I, Robot.” Nevertheless, it’s nice to see Hollywood really stretching its creative arms in trying to come up with new material.
The start of April brings us 3 wide-release movies that will surely find an audience. In this week’s box office the Hollywood moguls have brought us a humorous look at the start of football, a fantasy-meets reality adventure, and another teeny-horror movie that I’m sure will disappoint.
