Welcome to the first installment of Friday Flicks on this gloomy March 28, 2008. We have 4 wide-release openings this weekend that include 2 movies I really want to see, 1 movie I’ll probably see on Netflix, and 1 movie that should never have been made. Without further ado, let’s see what’s playing this weekend:
Starting this Friday, I am going to unveil a new feature to Truth On Cinema called Friday’s Flicks. Every Friday I am going to list the movies that are coming out that weekend and give you my opinion about each one. Yes, I will have not seen the movie, but I am just going to give you my initial thoughts on them, so that way you can be better prepared to tackle what movie you should see. Make sure you click on the little orb in the top right to bookmark the site so you don’t miss this week’s Friday’s Flicks!
Movie News (3/25/08): Fortunately for America and the world, it looks like the Fantastic Four franchise has come to an end. Chris Evans told MTV that, “…I’m pretty sure we won’t do [another] one. I’m assuming that one is a closed book. …It takes up a lot of time. It’s a big commitment. I’m happy with walking away…”
Movie Rumors (3/19/08): It looks like “Spider-Man” director Sam Raimi is in negotiations to revive Paramount Pictures’ Jack Ryan franchise. The Tom Clancy-created CIA analyst character appeared in four hit movies for the studio from 1990’s acclaimed “The Hunt for Red October” through to 2002’s “The Sum of All Fears”. The plan is Raimi would develop and direct several films featuring Ryan at a younger, more formative point in his career than previously depicted. One idea is that the studio is considering setting the film in the present, with the action triggered by a global threat. We’ll see what happens…
From the director of “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” comes this beautifully haunting tale of what happens when your dissatisfaction of life leads you to live in your dreams and engage the waking world into them. This visual fancy of imagination and fantasy lead me right in with its raw emotional characters and down-to-earth love story…
Sequel News 3/12/08: Bryan Singer (X-Men, Superman Returns) reported to Empire Online that work is underway on a sequel to “Superman Returns.” I really enjoyed the first one, though I’m the minority there, but I really hope that this new one will be a lot better.
After a week long voting process, the final tally is in…(drum roll please)
My wife and I will be going to see 10,000 B.C. courtesy of the ToC community. Thank you to everyone who voted and gave me their opinions. I love having a community that supports each other and that is involved in each other’s daily lives.
Keep checking the site to read my 10,000 B.C. review here in the next few days.
Movie Photos (3/7/08): From the files of “One of My Most Anticipated Movies of 2009″ comes the FIRST photos from Zach Snyder’s (300) adaptation of Alan Moore’s graphic novel entitled “Watchmen.” Click here to check them out in all of their glory.
Les Miserables is a movie that I have known about for a long time but never wanted to see. I couldn’t properly pronounce the name and knowing that it is a musical and a book didn’t really help my wanting to see the movie. It has always been a movie that never interested or excited me…boy was I wrong.
Movie News (3/5/08): Focus features set a September 12th release date for the Coen Brothers’ next movie, which is a dark comedy about the spy business entitled “Burn After Reading” starring George Clooney, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Brad Pitt and Tilda Swinton.
